چکیده

Assumption of cutting disturbances in hard turning process (caused by variations in depth of cutting, high passive force Fp or small tool nose radius) could be confirmed with several indicators. These indicators can be monitored during turning process(forces, vibrations, sound, etc.) or after process has been finished (roughness, temperature, wear, etc). Variation of depth of cutting as well as its influence on lead edge angle and passive force Fp was therefore calculated on numerical model and procedure was followed by experimental tests . It was found that high chip thickness alteration occur because of cutting depth vary for a value of some 60 % and even more if Fp force signal is analyzing when machine tool has inadequate stiffness. Assuming that a hard turning is a semi finishing or finishing process, surface finish is of big relevance. Surface roughness is a consequence of both cutting disturbances and of tool/workpiece non-uniform loading distribution. Results of test indicates an optimal cutting depth for final pass when minimum surface roughness can be achieved what can be valuable for cutting regime determination. Furthermore, higher machine tool efficiency might be achieved..

The current experimental study is to investigate the effects of process parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut) on performance characteristics (surface roughness, machining force and flank wear) in hard turning of AISI 4340 steel with multilayer CVD (TiN/TiCN/Al2O3) coated carbide insert. Combined effects of cutting parameter (v, f, d) on performance outputs (Ra, Fm and VB) ar...

Prediction Model for CNC Turning on AISI316 with Single and Multilayered Cutting tool Using Box Behnken Design (RESEARCH NOTE)

Austenitic stainless steels (AISI316) are used for many commercial and industrial applications for their excellent corrosive resistance. AISI316 is generally difficult to machine material due to their high strength and high work hardening tendency. Tool wear (TW) and surface roughness (SR) are broadly considered the most challenging phases causing poor quality in machining. Optimization of cutt...

Surface Quality and Tool Wear in Interrupted Hard Turning of 1137 Steel Shafts

1. INTRODUCTION The machining of hardened steel components with PcBN inserts having a geometrically defined cutting edge has gained substantially in importance due to improvements in the performance of such modern cutting tool materials. Hard turning is increasingly a profitable alternative to finish grinding. The objective is to remove workpiece material in a single cut rather than a lengthy g...

Experimental Study & Modeling of Surface Roughness in Turning of Hardened AISI 4340 Steel Using Coated Carbide Inserted

Turning of hardened steels using a single point cutting tool has replaced the cylindrical grinding now as it offers attractive benefits in terms of lower equipment costs, shorter set up time, fewer process setups, higher material removal rate, better surface quality and elimination of cutting fluids compared to cylindrical grinding. In order to obtain desired surface quality by machining, pr...
